MJDS Volunteer Affiliates

At MJDS we believe in reaching out to communities in need. By inviting charitable organizations to participate at our school events, we help to educate and enlighten our children about important causes around the world.

Below are a few of the charitable organizations that have taken part in our school events:

Literature for Life (www.literatureforlife.org)

Literature for Life is a non-profit organization committed to supporting the role of mother as her child’s first teacher by facilitating a one-of-a-kind reading circle program to marginalized women throughout Toronto’s priority neighbourhoods. In turn, Stella promotes environmental responsibility through the re-use of books and educational supplies, saving thousands of pounds of books from polluting our landfills.

Stellaa (www.stellaa.org)

Stellaa aims to promote literacy to the children and adults of Africa by providing donated books and needed educational resources. Stellaa's goal is to help the people of Africa to realize their potential and create the new futures for themselves, their families, and their communities that will eradicate poverty.

Charity Village (www.charityvillage.com)

Charity Village is Canada's supersite for the non-profit sector. It serves and supports the 175,000 registered Canadian charities and non-profit organizations, and the millions of professionals, staffers, volunteers, and donors who make this sector such an important part of our national fabric.

Jewish Immigrant Aid Services of Canada (www.jias.org)

Jewish Immigrant Aid Services of Canada (JIAS) is the oldest chartered non-for-profit settlement organization in Canada. For over 85 years, JIAS has been a critical force in shaping and building the Jewish communities of Canada. For over 85 years, JIAS has been a critical force in shaping and building the Jewish communities of Canada. Founded on August 30th, 1922, JIAS Canada has assisted Eastern European Jews escaping programs, Holocaust survivors, Bosnian refugees, and a multitude of other Jews from around the world.

Mazon Canada (www.mazoncanada.ca)

Mazon Canada is the national Jewish Response to Hunger. Mazon Canada raises funds primarily from within the Jewish community and distributes those funds, on a non-denominational basis, to Canadian organizations battling hunger on the front lines. Based on the tradition of 'tikkun olam' (healing the world), Mazon strives to link public awareness about the issue of poverty and hunger with the mitzvah (obligation) of tzedakah (justice/charity).
