My partner, Matthew, began teaching at MJDS in 2011, so I guess we have been an MJDS family for 11 years now! Both of our children have been at MJDS since they were in the toddler program. Our eldest is currently in Grade 3 in Lower Elementary and our youngest is in his third year of Casa.

Why did you choose MJDS?
MJDS was the natural choice for our family. We believe deeply in the Montessori approach to supporting child development and learning and feel incredibly blessed to have found a school that can integrate Jewish learning and living into a Montessori context.
What do you love most about MJDS?
The warmth of the MJDS community! In every interaction, the MJDS teachers, staff, and school leadership model kindness, caring, and respect - they are a huge part of helping to raise our kids to be mensches (good people)! And the other MJDS families have become a huge part of our community. It is such a gift to watch our children grow and develop together.
What is one word that best describes the school? Why?
Calm. Before the pandemic, every time I would go into the school, I was always amazed by the calm energy that flowed through the hallways. Walking into a classroom, I was so impressed by the focus and independence the students were demonstrating. The peaceful atmosphere is a real testament to the Montessori philosophy and to the skills of the MJDS teachers.
In what ways have you seen your child/ren grow and develop as a result of their experience at MJDS?
Our kids are growing into curious, kind, and independent humans, and we know MJDS has been a huge part of their development. Their time at MJDS has given them the skills, confidence, and support to feel amazed, ask questions, seek answers, share learning, and develop strong connections.
Describe how a Montessori approach to education helps your child/ren learn
The Montessori approach to education inspires a love of learning and eagerness to deepen both knowledge and skills. It guides our kids to nurture their curiosity and follow their passions.
